A forex broker marketing plan sets six things: the markets and clients you target, the channels that bring them, how you attribute each client to a channel, how signups become funded clients, how you keep traders, and how you measure every campaign as profit and loss. TradeCore runs the execution side, five marketing programs on one engine inside the broker CRM.
Most brokerage marketing plans fail in the same place: money goes out across partners, ads and promotions, but nobody can say which channel brought the clients who deposited and kept trading. This guide is a working framework for new and growing FX/CFD brokerages. If you are still setting the business up, start with how to start a forex brokerage.
What goes into a forex broker marketing plan?
A plan a team can run on fits on one page. Each part answers one question and has one number that tells you whether it is working:
| Part | The question it answers | The number to watch |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Markets and client profile | Who are we for, and where are they? | Signups by country and client type |
| 2. Acquisition channels | Where will they come from, at what cost? | Cost per signup, per channel |
| 3. Attribution | Which channel brought which client? | Share of clients with a known source |
| 4. Conversion | How many signups become funded clients? | Signup → FTD conversion |
| 5. Retention | Do funded clients keep trading? | Active traders month on month |
| 6. Campaign P&L | Did each campaign make money? | Revenue minus cost, per campaign |

The six parts of a forex broker marketing plan: markets and client profile, acquisition channels, attribution, conversion, retention and campaign P&L, each with the number to watch.
1. Choose your markets and client profile
Decide which countries and which traders you are built for before you buy a single click. A retail beginner, an experienced trader and a professional client respond to different offers, platforms and languages. Your licence, your trading platforms, your payment methods and the languages your client portal runs in should all point at the same profile, or acquisition money leaks at onboarding.
2. Pick acquisition channels and give each a budget
Forex brokerages usually draw on five channels. Most growing brokers lean on one or two and test the rest with a small, tracked budget:
- Introducing brokers and affiliates. Partners who refer traders and earn on what they do. Often one of a brokerage's largest channels; see IB commission structures for how to pay them without overpaying.
- Paid search and paid social. Fast to switch on and to measure, expensive in competitive markets.
- Content and search. Guides, market commentary and education that bring traders in over months, not days.
- Refer a friend. Existing clients inviting other traders, rewarded when the friend funds and trades.
- Events and community. Expos, webinars and local communities, strongest where trust is built in person.
Give every channel a budget, a cost model (per click, per lead, per FTD or a flat fee) and a review date. A channel without a review date keeps spending.
3. Track which channel brought each client
Attribution is where most plans are weakest. Give every channel, partner and campaign its own tracking link, carrying the source, the medium, the cost type and the cost per unit, so cost and results land on the same record. Clean the data at the door: bot clicks should never count, and repeat hits from the same visitor should be counted once.
In TradeCore, tracking links work exactly this way: bot clicks are excluded from click counts (and still redirected), and repeat hits are de-duplicated per IP, per link, per calendar day. A link can send a postback to a callback URL. Attribution follows the visitor's marketing consent:
- Consent granted: a first-party cookie keeps the campaign parameters for 30 days.
- Not yet decided: the same parameters, for the session only.
- Consent denied: the link reference alone, for the session only.
Only utm_*, clickid and cxd pass through to an external destination, so a tracking link cannot be turned into an open redirect.
4. Turn signups into funded clients
The gap between a signup and a first deposit is where acquisition budgets disappear. Every extra step in onboarding and verification costs clients, and a client who stalls needs a nudge on the same day, not in next month's newsletter. The onboarding experience is itself marketing; treat it as part of the plan.
- Automated journeys. Follow-ups triggered by what each client did or didn't do: signed up but didn't verify, verified but didn't deposit. TradeCore's Automations & AI works from 200+ event triggers across 17 areas of the brokerage.
- Deposit and welcome bonuses. TradeCore runs three bonus campaign kinds (deposit, welcome and fixed amount). When campaigns compete, priority decides, and a decision record shows which campaign applied, or why none did.
- Invite and promo codes. Invite codes open a closed signup flow with a use count and expiry; promo codes carry a per-client limit and a validity window.
5. Keep the traders you paid to acquire
You have already paid to acquire every funded client, so the plan needs a reason for them to stay. Three programs do most of the work, and they work best on one client record, where marketing can see deposits and trading:
- Loyalty & Rewards. Clients earn coins per closed lot or per deposit and spend them in the broker's rewards store. The full module adds tiers, quests, streaks, contests and boosts, and reports the coin liability the brokerage still owes.
- Cashback. A per-lot rebate to the trader. The full module adds volume tiers with separate promotion and retention thresholds, so a client who has a slow month keeps their tier.
- Refer a friend. Clients invite other traders and are rewarded when the friend qualifies. The full module adds reward tiers, payout schedules and fraud scoring on six signals.
6. Measure every campaign as profit and loss
Clicks and signups are leading indicators; the plan is judged on money. Report every campaign as revenue, cost and profit in one currency, next to the funnel that produced them: visits, signups, first-time deposits and deposits. Then cut budget from the channels that lose money and move it to the ones that make it.
TradeCore's campaigns report exactly that: revenue, cost and profit in one currency, alongside visits, signups split into lead, demo and live, FTDs, deposits and conversion, with a daily series for each. The same P&L is available per tracking link, so a partner or an ad set can be judged on its own.
